Takeah Initiative – Agricultural Support for Farmers | SENNAR State
Project Description:
In partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), BORD Relief implemented the Takeah Initiative in Sennar State, East Sudan — a vital program aimed at reviving agricultural livelihoods affected by conflict and displacement.
The project provided free improved seeds to local farmers, alongside community engagement efforts to understand their needs, build trust, and report findings back to FAO.
Through this initiative, we empowered farmers to rebuild their fields, restore food production, and sustain their communities.
“In the heart of hardship, we didn’t just hand out — we planted hope.”

Why Sennar Matters
The fall of Al-Jazirah State in December 2023 pushed over one million people in Sennar State into a state of fear and instability.
On June 29, 2024, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) swept through Sennar in what was described as a “blitzkrieg attack,” storming Sinjah after breaching Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) lines at Jebel Moya.
As local resident Tariq said in an interview with The New Arab:
“Sennar was next. We all knew. I only wish this day hadn't come so soon.”
It was in the shadow of this growing instability that BORD launched the Takeah Initiative — a project aimed at restoring food production, trust, and community resilience at a time when the state itself was collapsing.
